WB 26th Nov 2018

Lesson 1  – Unfortunately I will not be present for the lesson today.

I have left some work for you complete in the top drawer of the desk in Mrs Barbers and my shared classroom.

  1. Take back your correlation or experiment sheet. I would like you to complete the reverse side. This is to check your understanding of the correlation method.
  2. Allow yourself no more than 10 minutes to complete the 3 and 2 mark question on Offender profiling.
  3. You have an ‘Apply it’ question to complete. Once you have checked the model answers in your digital text book, add to your original answers in different colour so that I can see how you have improved your answers.
  4. Finally, you have a Research Methods question to complete using a profiling scenario.  For question 4,  use your text book to find out which statistical test would be appropriate for this kind of data.

Read ahead – will be examining the Biological explanation for crime next – do read about this in your digital text book.

Lessons 2-5   I was absent for these lessons

Use this time for some independent research. I’d like you to summarise the bio and psychological explanation of offending. Use the digital text book.

For each explanation ensure you have:
AO1  6-10 pieces of factual information for each explanation.

AO3. One strength and one weakness for each  properly peey’d

Once you have researched Eysenck’s theory of criminal personality, please complete questions 1-3 on page 213 of the PHG revision guide.

You recently completed 2 past correlation exam questions. I will hand these back on Monday 3rd Dec. Here are the mark schemes to help you identify where you may have lost some marks Mark scheme 2012    Mark scheme 2013

WB 19th Nov – Measuring crime

Lesson 1 – Housekeeping consisted of handing back work and glossary tests. We then went on to examine the way crime rates are measured in the UK.

Please complete pages 2-5 in your Forensic psychology pack

Forensic 2

Lesson 2  – Today was all about Offender Profiling. >>>>>>>   top down

Lesson 3 – You analysed 3 crime scenes looking for evidence of organised and disorganized offender. We also evaluated the top down approach.

Make sure you are pre-reading. Bottom up profiling tomorrow!

Please complete pages 6-10 in your Forensic psychology pack

Lesson 3-4   Bottom-up approach >>>>>   bottom up

These you-tube clips provide excellent explanations of offender profiling. It is well worth watching them. Be aware, they are  undergraduate level. This is what university lectures may be like.

Prep for next Wednesday

Describe and Evaluate three ways of measuring crime. Refer to evidence and/or published examples in your answer (16 marks)

Use your PHG revision guide to  have another look at how to write up a lab report  – look at the various sections – I will be assessing your understanding of this later on this week.

I forgot to take in the spearman’s rho/Pearsons R homework due today – I will take in all prep from last week on Wednesday of this week.

If you have not yet completed your Biological Psychology PHG pack I suggest you do. The activities are designed to help check you understanding of the concepts we have covered, like brain localisation and biological rhythms.  Sadly I was unable to spend any more time covering  these topics.

Finally please complete pages 2-10 in your Forensic Packs

WB 12th Nov 2018 – let’s ensure we really understand correlation and critical value tables

encouraement

Lesson 1  – Thank you for handing in your home work 🙂

I handed back the RM work sheet you completed for homework last week  – it was evident that writing hypotheses still needs practice. Also, marks were lost as many of you are failing to  read the question carefully 😦

This lesson was about consolidating your understanding of correlation and practising how to look up critical values and work out whether results are significant or not.

Lesson 2/3 – Today’s starter was checking your understanding of statement of significance and what significant results mean.

We then looked at  >>> infradian and ultradian 2018   you completed an A3 worksheet on Infradian Rhythms using your text books. Finish for homework

You completed a crossword and a mix and match evaluation activity.

As we start exploring the first of the options for Paper 3, just a gentle reminder that there may be some content that can be distressing or hard to explore. However, this comes with the nature of the subject of Psychology and needs to be looked at in order to 1) pass the exam and 2) understand how psychology can help real issues in the world.

If there are any concerns as to what we will be looking at please look ahead in your text books and read over the spec.

Also can we please all remember, the psychology classroom is a safe place where we should feel we can ask questions and share our views and opinions without being judged or ridiculed. We must also consider the view and opinion we are giving before sharing taking into account other peoples and their beliefs, experiences etc.

Ultimately my message is: please feel you can speak openly but take into account your fellow peers.

Additionally, I know I don’t need to say this, but please act in a mature way with no inappropriate comments that could offend or upset your peers – remember, we are not here to “joke” about sensitive materials

Lesson 4  –  Biological glossary and Research methods key terms assessment take 2 🙂

Lesson 5 – Introduction to Forensic Psychology  – we started by considering how difficult it is to define what we mean by Crime!  See power point >>>>  Forensic 1

Prep

Please complete exercise 3.12 ‘Using Critical Values’ and Exercise 3.14  ‘Spearman and Pearson’ by next Monday.    You may need to read about these concepts in your digital text book.

You have 2 examination questions (Jan 2012 and Jan 2013) to complete for next Wednesday

We are moving onto to the Forensic Unit next  – it’s time to start reading ahead. Your goal should be to stay one double page spread ahead of me at all time 🙂

Complete the first page of your Forensic Pack whilst the inofrmation is still freash in your mind.

Take a look at the T2U Forensic Course Companion which I have emailed to you. Do you think you would like this printed?

REMEMBER: I will be checking your folders next week – please hand in your organised folder next Wednesday – you can collect it from the classroom at the end of the day 🙂

WB 5th Nov 2018 – Bio Rhythms

girl sleeping on bed

Lesson 1 – We spent some time handing in, and having returned various preps 🙂

Remember to bring in a USB stick next Monday so you can go on to the shared drive to collect useful information – like all the answers to the questions in the GHG revision guide

We will be having another go at the Bio and RM glossary tests next Wednesday  – so get revising. You should all be able to achieve 80% in these assessments – especially as you now have the answers to revise from 🙂

We recapped the sign test and meaning of significance. You were given a diagram of a normal distribution curve for your files – you have been asked to draw and a positive and negative skewed distribution curve on the back of it – I will check these on Wednesday.

You wrote a statement of significance.  P<0.05 and explained what it means.

Here is the introduction to Biological Rhythms >>  1 intro to rhythms ppt

Lesson 2 and 3 ->>>>>> 2 circadian rhythm

You were given time to complete some worksheets and gap fills that helped you to make sense of the Circadian Rhythm – you used your text books to look up research and develop your knowledge of key terms.

I assessed your understanding of the Research Methods terminology we have been looking at in relation to descriptive and inferential tests.

Prep:

Don’t forget to keep your sleep diaries and bring in your data for Wednesday

Lesson 4- 5  – This lesson was about correlation – hopefully this method of analysis is now clearer to you. See this power point >>> 1-correlations-2018

This works out the Spearman’s Rho correlation coefficient for you >> works out correlations for you

Prep:

  1. You have a standard deviation work sheet to complete for next Monday
  2. I will want to see your negative and positive skewed distributions too.
  3. Bring a USB stick to lesson on Monday as we will be in the computer room
  4. You have another Research methods and Bio Psychology assessment next Wednesday
  5. Pre-read the section on Infradian and Ultradian rhythms from your digital text books
  6. Consolidate your understanding of circadian rhythms – Have you looked at the answers to the Apply it questions? Have you completed the quiz? “Do the work to get the grade”
  7. Write up your correlation research  – see last slide of the correlation power point above. I am looking for the traditional format.
  8. You have a few more pages to complete in your PHG Bio Psychology pack – do your best to complete the pack.
  9. Start reading ahead ………………………….Forensic Psychology Next 🙂
