MRI scan

Welcome back – as you know we now have a lesson on Monday afternoon in room 28 the computer room 🙂

Our first lesson back was basically a paper swapping exercise. You handed me piles of prep and also work that what not handed in before we broke up for 1/2 term, and I handed you various activities to get your brain going again.

  • You had to label a brain and a neuron from memory
  • You did a ‘find the right word activity’ for brain lateralisation
  • You completed a massive Sperry multiple choice test

Liv showed us that the poster on brain scanning really did reveal hidden videos – she was the only person who managed to get it to work – well done LIV  🙂

Mini prep you have a recap activity to do on brain plasticity for tomorrow

Lesson 2/3

We started with a RM examination question in which you had to analyse some data and write a null hypothesis.

We consolidated our understanding of ways of investigating the brain >>>> Scanning 2018

Please start a sleep diary from tonight onward – make a note of how many hours sleep you get each night. We will need this data next Wednesday 🙂  sleep diary correlation

You took the quiz >>> owls quiz

One to ones are focusing on Research Methods and ensuring you are confident with the year 1 material

Lesson 4  – You started with a Case Study gap fill, followed by a research methods glossary test and a bio psych glossary test.

Lesson 5  –  We started to consider the nature of descriptive and inferential statistical tests. We recapped levels of measurement, and measures of central tendency. We also learned about why we conduct inferential statistical tests. We then conducted a sign test. See todays PPT >>> Statistics

P<0.05 is known as a STATEMENT OF SIGNIFICANCE. It means “The probability of the results being due to chance is less than 5%”  If you see this written in a journal article it means the results were significant and the null hypothesis has been rejected.

Prep:

Read the GHG digi text book from pages 190-197 in order to check your understanding of basic arithmetic and associated terminology.

learn more about standard deviation and measures of central tendency  >>> http://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/standard/maths_ii/statistics/

Here is a fascinating magazine to read about your brain – it’s an easy fun read Brain magasine

Don’t forget to watch the Horizon programme about sleep currently available on the BBC IPlayer

You have a RM work sheet to complete for MONDAY  – it requires that you conduct a sign test 🙂

We will be looking at Biological rhythms nextÂ
